Cristian Díaz Muñoz, PhD

I was born in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) and soon moved to Andalucía, my homeland. Roaming from a beautiful city to another I completed my university studies in Biochemistry at Universidad de Córdoba and in Health Biotechnology at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Sevilla. During my latter studies, I completed two research stays that turned out to be keystone for pursuing my dream of doing research and becoming, one day, Doctor. Hence, I went abroad and joined the research group of Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels, Belgium) to complete my PhD studies. My research dealt with the investigation of new yeast starter culture strains by assessing their effect on cocoa fermentation processes through (meta)genomics, combined with high-throughput metabolomics. Five years later, I join the MDALab at CIC bioGUNE, to apply the acquired knowledge and investigate the genomic signatures of irritable bowel syndrome.

Besides science, I cannot understand life without friends and sports. I love participating in popular races, climbing some rocks, and playing padel.
